Joanne talks to her husband about Sonny. The husband says why doesn't she drop it. He is in the hospital. He almost died.
Joanne says ‘I was born before him and they treated him as king.’
She gets up and goes to the cabinet and gets her favorite drink. A double vodka. She turns on the
TV and starts drinking.
Candy is visiting Sonny in the hospital.
Sonny says “I am a lucky guy. I have you as a wife. The kids, their spouses and all my friends. The job says I don't have to return to work until September. They will pay me. After I get out, I will see the DA and when you leave, I will take a nap.”
Joanne is talking to Ruth.
Joanne says “I will give you information on the defense of Johnny. He may have to plead insanity to beat the case. One of my lawyer friends is helping on Johnny's case. Don't talk to Sonny and Candy.”
Ruth says “ok”
The chief legal officer is having a meeting
“We have undocumented information about Sonny. We will do an in house investigation from day one. Do your best and come back with the right information. This meeting is over.”
The lawyers are having a meeting.
Joanne’s lawyer says ‘Sonny was harassing Johnny, and stole his girlfriend. He didn't help Johnny in any way. He always puts Johnny down. Sonny tried to kill someone in the military.’
The other lawyer says ‘We will work on it.’
The lawyer calls up the Department of Army. He is requesting the military records on Sonny. He is told to give his name, number and address and why he wants the files. The forms should be sent to him in five business days. Return the filled out forms as soon as possible. The lawyer will do that.
Saturday - Curt and Tom are talking to Sonny in the hospital.
Tom says ‘We know you will be discharged soon. So you can rest at home. The corporation is doing an investigation on what you did in the military.’
Sonny says ‘I was told that. I have an idea who it was.”
They talk for another half an hour and both men leave.
Joanne is having drinks with one of her military friends.
She says “Dennis, you are a former officer of intelligence in the military. Can you look up the records of my brother?’
Dennis replies ‘I know what you and your brother are going through. So I can only do so much without breaking the law.’
Joanne says ‘Do your best.’
Dennis says “I will see what I can do.’
The corporation receives Sonny’s military records.
The executive says ‘Sonny wasn't a perfect soldier, then again who is? He had no dishonorable discharge, no article 15 and no court martials. Out of 100, he got an 85. Let Sonny know that his comeback month is September and he is found innocent. Nothing was wrong. Let's have lunch.’
Johnny is talking to his two lawyers.
‘I know they found drugs and alcohol. He drugged me. His wife was my girlfriend. His daughter is my daughter. He only got court martialed for murder. He is a schemer. He also has other children floating around. The Orient, Baltimore and New Jersey. Check it out. See if I am a liar.’
The lawyer says ‘We will check it out. If you need something, let us know the next time we see you.’
They leave.
Dennis comes back with some information.
“It might be a technicality. He left the military without signing out. So Sonny is considered AWOL and can be called back to active duty to be court martialed.”
Joanne says “Let me think about it.”
The conversation ends.
Joanne gets in contact with her lawyer and has info to give them involving Sonny and will help Johnny’s case. Also Sonny's daughter has info on Sonny as well. The lawyers say it can't be here. It has to be documented. Joanne is ok with this.
Joanne calls Sonny's daughter. She tells her that the daughter should write a letter saying Sonny was trying to destroy Johnny’s reputation in the program. The daughter will do that.
Johnny is talking to his lawyers and his lawyers confirm the harassment he has faced with Sonny. He has always said that. The lawyer tells him that he will probably be going to a grand jury and he may have to plead insanity. Johnny wants to know why. The lawyer tells him, if he is found guilty, he will be prosecuted for attempted murder. If he pleads insanity, it could be lighter. Johnny will talk to him at a later date and they agree and will see each other next week. Johnny goes back to his cell.
Joanne and her husband talk.
“You are getting into Sonny's life too much. It may end up in a lawsuit.”
Joanne says ‘I think he provoked Johnny into trying to kill him.’
Her husband says ‘Can you prove it?’
‘I will.’
Joanne is drinking at home and calls Candy.
‘I hope your husband doesn't get out of the hospital. If he does, I will put him in jail for what he did to my life.’
Candy wants to know if Joanne is drinking or taking drugs.
Joanne says ‘That isn't any of your business. Your husband is not a saint. If you don't believe me, call your daughter.’
Joanne hangs up.
Sonny is informed by the doctors that he will be discharged from the hospital this Friday.
He calls Candy and tells her ‘Pick me up at 4 pm.’
Candy says ‘That's wonderful. When you get home you can relax.’
Sonny says ‘I definitely will. I will see you at 4 pm Friday. I love you.’

Sonny says ‘Monday I have to go to the office to talk to them about certain things.’
Candy says ‘I will drive you there.’
Sonny says “We will go to church tomorrow and relax today.’
Joanne’s husband wants to talk to her privately.’I love you and I will do anything for you, but I must say something. You must forget about Sonny and other people. Worry about you. Here is the number to the veterans help center.’ He gives Joanne a piece of paper with a number on it.
‘They will pay for thirty days. If you don't decide, I will have to take legal action.’
Joanne says ‘I don't have a drinking problem.’
Her husband says ‘We shall see’
Joanne storms out of the house.
A week later, Joanne is at the VRC. Her counselor’s nickname is St Pete.
He tells Joanne “I think I know your brother Sonny. We were in the military together.’
Joanne says ‘That bum’
Pete says ‘Yeah, I understand. Let me tell you that you are here for thirty days. It will be paid by the government and they will pay your medical insurance. You can't drink or take illegal drugs. You will be going to bed at 10 pm and up by 6am. You will have breakfast and in rehab afterwards. Afterwards, dinner will be at 6pm. You will have free time to write and make calls from 7-10 pm, five days a week. You will be going on trips on the weekends and possibly church. We will see you at 8 am tomorrow.
The next day- Pete talks to Joanne.
‘You have three hours to make a list of people you insulted and make amends to. You will give that letter to your mentor and your mentor will give it to me.
Joanne says “I will do it “
The day of the trip, Joanne, after breakfast, and the other patients are on a bus.
When they get to the park soon after, Joanne takes her phone and starts walking. She calls someone.
Joanne goes into a different direction.
She does a disappearance act so no one can find her.
A few days later Joanne calls her lawyer.
‘I walked away from rehab and I want to go back.’
The lawyer tells her there will be disciplinary actions.
She wants to go back and plead insanity. Her lawyer will get back to her.
Back in rehab, Joanne is told she will be under tight security. The escape will be on her record and she will be required to do another three months in the program and will have to do her amends anyway.
Sonny is in the county’s district attorney’s office.
‘You liked to be called Sonny. Sonny, we will indict this case to the max. Johnny is indicted. We will subpoena you.”
Sonny says “I will be there when you call.”
Joanne calls Sonny
‘I hope you die the most horrific death.’
Sonny tells her that the problem is she doesn't want to listen, but he will help her if she wants it
Joanne says ‘Drop dead ‘
She hangs up. Pete was watching Joanne the whole time.
Pete speaks about Joanne to his supervisor.
‘Joanne should be committed for six months. So we can determine her mental status.’
The supervisor says ‘We will do the tests and give it to my supervisor. When we have made a decision, you will be the first to know.’
Johnny and his lawyer talk
His lawyer says ‘So far everything is falling apart. We will have you plead guilty through insanity.’
Johnny says ‘That spoiled Joanne has gone nuts and backed down. I still say Sonny is behind this whole thing.’
The lawyer will see him next time and the lawyer leaves.
Sonny, Curt and Tom are at a Par meeting. During the coffee break, both men are happy that Sonny is well.
Curt says ‘We are happy that there is no major damage. We have gotten news from the DA saying Johnny is facing ten years in jail.’
Sonny says ‘I want to see Johnny go to jail, but he should get help.’
Curt says ‘It is up to Johnny to get help ‘
Sonny says ‘Yeah, you are right. I guess after the meeting we go home.’
Curt says ‘We definitely will.’
Sonny is informed that Johnny will be going to face charges, and that Sonny and his friends will testify and for them to get their stories straight. The DA tells him that they will have a good chance of winning the case.
Joanne is informed that she will be institutionalized for a year and her husband is in control.
Joanne wants to see a lawyer and thinks Sonny is in control of this whole thing. She wants to sue the institution.
After Sonny and candy leave court, they grab something to eat
Sonny said ‘That wasn't too bad. I hope the jury doesn't get a long sentence.’
Candy says ‘How about we take a trip to New York so I can see friends?’
Sonny says ‘We will see about that ‘
Sonny was informed it was a hung jury.
He was visibly shocked and Sonny is told that Johnny will be retired again and is on bail until the next trial.
He hangs up.
Sonny tells Candy ‘ It was a hung jury.’
Candy says ‘ I am sick of this whole thing.’
Sonny says ‘I know.’
Sonny takes a week off to go to New York to see friends and family with Candy.
Once the week is over, they go back to Iowa.
Candy says “I am glad we went. It relaxed me.’
Sonny says ‘I am glad it did. Make sure you relax, especially when you go to your meeting.’
Candy ‘I will do that’
