Sonny is talking to Curt and Tom about his family.

Curt says ‘You can't undo the past. Look at your life now. You did a lot of great things. You have a wife, kids and friends. You have given up smoking and drinking. Live your life one day at a time and live life on life’s terms.’

Tom asks ‘Why don't you sit down and talk to this woman. Be calm and listen to her.’

Sonny will be doing what they tell him. He will call them in a couple of days to let them know what happened. Before Sonny leaves, they have coffee.

Sonny is home watching tv. The phone rings and Candy answers it.

Candy says ‘It is for you. It's Pete.’

Sonny asks surprised, "What?!’

Candy wants Sonny to talk to him.

Sonny takes the phone and asks’What do you want?!’

Pete tells Sonny he is in trouble.

Sonny wants to know the problem. Pete tells him that the Bishop’s estate is suing him for kicking out his girlfriend.

Sonny tells Pete ‘I don't care. Don't call me anymore. This is it. Bye.’

Sonny hangs up.

Sonny tells Candy not to give him the phone if Pete calls.

‘No problem.’

Friday night - Sonny says ‘The weekend is here, the kids are gone, and we will have a great time.’

Candy says ‘That is wonderful.’

Saturday Morning - They get up, go out and see a movie. Then they have lunch together.

Candy says ‘That was a great movie. I love romantic movies.’

Sonny says ‘I am happy you enjoyed yourself.’

Candy asks ‘What are we going to do now?

Sonny says ‘Go to the mall.’

Candy says smiling ‘I love spending your money.’

They both laugh about it

Saturday night - When they get home, they have a romantic night together.

Sunday Morning- They wake up to go to church.

Candy says ‘We have to do this again.’

Sonny tells her ‘We will.’

Sonny is at work talking to his secretary Roberta

‘Tell the crew that corporate is coming tomorrow so they will have to be all on time and not make mistakes on their jobs.’

Roberta answers ‘ I will send a notice on the billboard in half an hour.’

Sonny says ‘No problem.’

A half an hour later, Sonny gets a phone call from Candy. She lets him know both mothers want to talk to Sonny and Candy about everything and don't want the kids present.

Sonny tells her ‘I will see you after work. I got to do my job.’

He hangs up.

The four people are in the kitchen, Candy, Sonny and the two mothers.

His adopted mother says ‘Your mother and I were talking and this is what we will do. Your mother wants to be in your life and we are sorry for what happened in the past. We will visit you once a month. We will talk on the phone. We are here to help you.’

Sophia says ‘You are part of my past. I would like to get to know you and your family.’

Candy says ‘That is a great idea. The three of us girls can go out once a week.’

Both mothers think this is a great idea.

Sonny says ‘Fine with me.’

Sonny is at the coffee shop with Curt and Tom. He tells them what happened.

Curt says ‘Everything will work out. Take one day at a time. You are doing great.’

Sonny will listen. He will see them at tomorrow’s meeting. Everyone will take it one day at a time. They all leave.

Sonny and Candy get a phone call saying his adoptive mother is in the hospital. They will be there in forty five minutes.

When both people get to the hospital and visit his mother, his mother tells him she passed out. Her neighbor found her and called the ambulance. It might be an overload of sugar in her diet. They will visit her again tomorrow. Sonny's adoptive mother agrees.

Sonny gets another call. This time it is at work. It is his Uncle.

The uncle says ‘My sister died. You and your family are invited to the funeral service. It is this Saturday at 10 am.’

Sonny says ‘We will be there.’

After the funeral, his uncle, the uncle’s wife, Sonny, Candy, Joanne and her husband are at a restaurant.

Joanne says ‘I don't like your attitude. I have said this before. You listen to people who are not your family.’

Sonny says ‘Nobody told me about being adopted and you being my half sister and Mike being my half brother.’

Joanne tells Sonny ‘You could not handle it.’

Sonny says ‘What if I told you about your drinking problem? Would you be able to handle that?’

Joanne replies ‘I don't have a drinking problem.’

Sonny comes back with ‘I guess you can't handle that. Do you remember your friend Irene? She is the one who told me about your drinking problem.’

Joanne just says ‘She is a liar.’

After a while, everyone leaves the restaurant.

Joanne and her husband get in their car. When her husband tells Joanne ‘Sonny is right.’

Joanne says ‘What does he know? He is a two bit drunk and a lower ranking soldier. We have been officers and you are my husband. You are supposed to agree with me.’

The husband just drives.

Another phone call for Sonny at home. It is Joanne’s husband. He tells Sonny he was the one sending Sonny the secret letters.

Sonny asks ‘Why?’

The husband lets Sonny know that Joanne has had it in for him for a long time. It seems when Sonny came to the family, Sonny was the one being catered to. Not Joanne. Also, Joanne has a drinking problem. She didn't like the fact that Sonny got sober from Joanne and that may be the reason why she got an early retirement from the military. The husband has nothing against Sonny, but he does love Joanne. He will give more information to Sonny when he can.

Sonny says ‘I appreciate that. I will not say anything to anyone about this.’

They both thank each other and hang up.

Joanne makes a phone call to Johnny. She wants him to get as much information on Sonny as possible. Even if it isn't true. Johnny has no problem with that.

The next evening, as  Sonny comes home from work, Candy tells him that she  invited Sophia over for the weekend. Sonny thinks that is great. Afterwards, they watch TV.

Johnny is at the coffee shop. He tells certain people in the organization that Sonny is fooling around.

A person there asks ‘How do you know?’

Johnny responds ‘I saw Sonny one night at a bar-restaurant. He was with another woman. I don't have proof. So don't quote me on it.’

One guy says ‘That is not true.’

Johnny all of a sudden, has to go. As he is outside, he knows the others will blab about it. He then smiles.

Saturday morning:

Sonny and Candy get ready to go out. Before they leave, Sonny tells Candy she looks gorgeous. He hopes he doesn't get accused of cheating on her. Candy laughs.

They go to their regular spot to eat. They pick the table near the window, as usual. They eat after they order. Johnny walks in.

‘I see you are cheating on your wife.’

Sonny says ‘What are you talking about?!’

Candy says ‘You don't recognize me, Johnny?’

‘Candy?!’

Candy says ‘Yeah. I am wearing a wig and glasses. What is it to you?’

Johnny fumbles on what to say.

Sonny asks ‘Do you want to check my drink?’

Johnny takes a sip and says 'It is soda.’

The manager walks in and says ‘Any problems Sonny?’

Sonny replies ‘No. Just one of my friends checking up on me.’

The manager takes one look at Johnny and says to him ‘If you aren't ordering anything, I suggest you leave.’

Johnny leaves with his friends, embarrassed.

Candy says ‘If you give me fifty dollars, I will not tell your wife.’

Sonny replies ‘Done deal.’

Everyone has a laugh and both Sonny and Candy leave.

After a PAR meeting, the chairman comes over to Sonny and says ‘Can I talk to you privately?’

‘Sure.’

They go in the back room

Sonny asks ‘What do you want to know?’

‘Are you drinking?’

Sonny says ‘No. Why?’

‘Rumors.’

Sonny explains ‘Listen, I haven't taken anything since being here. I can show you a report of my job performance. I will bring it here next time.’

The chairman says ‘No, I believe you.’

Sonny just says ‘Ok.’

Sonny leaves.

Sonny is called into the President’s office.

‘’I would like to know if you are willing to take over our Midwest operations.’

Sonny says ‘I will think about that.’

The president tells Sonny ‘Take your time. It will double your salary and you don't have to make a final decision until next year.’

Sonny says ‘I have no college degree.’

The president says ‘You have common sense. That is what matters.’

Sonny says ‘I will give you my answer in three weeks.’

The president agrees.

After the meeting, Sonny meets up with Curt and Tom. He tells them what his company is planning.

Curt says ‘That is a great idea. See if you can get us jobs down there, so we can move to Iowa.’

Tom says ‘It may be cheaper. New York is getting expensive.’

Sonny says ‘I will look into it. After we do our business here, we can all go home.’

All of them think that is great.

Sonny is at a meeting and he will accept the position. He asks about his two friends joining him. The boss told him to fax HR and they will get back to him. Sonny has no problem with it. He goes back to his regular job.

Sonny and Candy are in the kitchen making plans.

Sonny says ‘In January, Sophie will take over the apartment. The kids will still be here. We will pay the rent until June. We move out after Christmas. Curt and Tom are moving before Christmas. So they should be settled in Iowa. Roberta will be my secretary, Curt will be the receptionist and Tom will be my aid and driver.’

Candy says ‘That is great. Also, we have not heard anything from the family, either ‘

Sonny says ‘Thank God.’

New Year’s Eve- Sonny and Candy are in their new place and new job in Iowa.

Candy says ‘I think next year will be our best year ever.’

Sonny says ‘I hope so. New place, new job. New friends. It is going to be great. No news from the family. I am happy to spend my life with you.’

They kiss as the new year rolls in.
